Clair Music

I founded ClairMusic and led it for four years, growing it into a beloved app with over 32,000 users and an NPS of 73. During this time, we refined our iOS and iPad apps, led a team of designers and developers, established a university ambassador program, and conducted weekly customer interviews to refine the product.

Going from Concept to Launch

Launching at NAMM highlighted the app as a post-COVID solution, bridging solitary practice with collaborative music experiences. Feedback validated our focus on community-driven learning, addressing musicians’ pandemic isolation.

Product Vision & Strategy: Designed and launched the ClairMusic platform, which grew to over 32,000 users in its first year with a 9/10 CSAT score.

User Engagement & Growth: Created a dynamic product roadmap and content library increasing app downloads by 30% and monthly active users by 20%.

Technology & Design: Led a software development team to build interactive features such as shared annotations, practice analytics, and content libraries, making music practice collaborative and engaging.

Team Leadership: Managed a cross-functional team of designers, developers, and marketers to execute product milestones and go-to-market strategies.

Community Building: Designed an ambassador program and launched targeted marketing campaigns to foster a vibrant user community.

Solution: Community Practice App

This community practice app redefines music learning in the post covid era by integrating social analytics, user-driven content, and collaborative tools, fostering a vibrant, supportive ecosystem for musicians to learn, grow, and connect.

Practice Analytics - 62% of musicians reported difficulty in tracking progress, with 48% citing this as a major factor in inconsistent practice habits (ABRSM Making Music, 2023).  Practice journals are currently the most used form of practice accountability.

Community-Created Content - Platforms with active user-generated libraries demonstrated a 24% higher retention rate over six months

Collaborative Practice Tools - Beta testing of Google Docs-style sheet music editing improved group practice efficiency by 44% coming from (ClairMusic Pilot Data, 2021).

In-App Messaging & Gamification - Leaderboards and milestone rewards improved retention by 18% over three months.

Creating a Seamless Onboarding

Helping users get started quickly and easily was critical to the survival of the app.
Situation
Users were leaving the app before seeing the value of the product.
Task
I designed an intuitive onboarding process to guide users to help them practice quicker.
Action
I sat in on the music lessons with 20 music teachers for two week to understand where they dropped off from the application. After gathering all their feedback, I prototyped a solution and validated the new onboarding process with the teachers.
Result
I create a user-friendly content bank that linked back to the app and moved the signup process to a later stage. These changes doubled daily active users and reduced onboarding time from about 2 minutes to under 30 seconds. Users found the app more accessible, significantly enhancing their learning experience.
